I thought and thought of a title for this piece before I finally decided(after a long battle with my thoughts) for this.
It's another time again, another opportunity has presented itself for us-Nigerians to choose those who will sit at the helm of affairs of our great nation for the next four years. Before now, a lot has been said(and done) about what 2015 holds for Nigeria. So many self-acclaimed 'Prophets'(do I need to mention Prophets of doom) have predicted a lot about this year, some have even gone as far as saying that the future of Nigeria hangs on this year-the outcome of the Presidential elections especially.
I don't intend to bore us with who the candidates are, who is good and who is bad or the modalities and statistics of the elections. The truth is that 2015 holds a lot for Nigeria, not because of who wins or loses the election, but because it will mark the start of a new beginning and as such, it is an important year for our nation. Let me share a story...
A sign board outside a restaurant read "Eat as much as you can, your grand children will pay the Bill"... A man entered the restaurant and ate as he could, got a tooth pick and was relaxing when the waiter gave him the bill he laughed and pointed to the sign board, don't you see, "only my grandchildren will pay" The waiter replied, "This is not your bill, it's your grandfather's Bill"...
It is now less than 24 hours to the election, as we head to the polls, let us make sure we are going there with all sincerity of heart to cast our vote as is our right. Let us not head there with the intention to vote for a candidate because of ethnic, tribal or religious bias. Neither should we head to the polls because of who has promised us what if we vote for who. Let us not head there with the intention to sell our PVC's, or to collect gifts after selling our conscience.
And for those who have decided not to head there because they think they wouldn't be affected by the results of the election or that their votes wouldn't matter, i say this, one vote is hugely important to the cause we are fighting for!(I'm pretty sure its not just 1 person that has resolved to do this, so a couple of votes is gravely important then). And if you finally don't go, posterity would hold you accountable and judge you if you complain about the situation of things in the country in the future(as your vote could have brought in the right person).
Finally, let us remember that we are paying for what our fathers and grand fathers' ate, let us 'eat' wisely to ensure that our children and those after them will pay the right price. Be wise, save Nigeria with your vote!!!
